What if the reason you’re struggling in business isn’t because you’re lazy, undisciplined, or incapable?
What if you’re simply trying to build your business using systems that don’t fit how your brain works?
That was the focus of my recent conversation with ADHD business strategist Diann Wingert on Podcast Profits Unleashed.
Diann brings a unique perspective. After spending over 20 years as a psychotherapist and building multiple businesses, she now helps entrepreneurs with ADHD traits create businesses that support their strengths rather than constantly fighting their natural tendencies.
One of the most eye-opening parts of our discussion was learning about the three ADHD subtypes.
For years, many people believed ADHD only looked like hyperactive young boys bouncing off walls. Diann explained that many women have gone undiagnosed because their symptoms often appear differently. Instead of physical hyperactivity, they may experience overthinking, perfectionism, procrastination, and chronic self-doubt.
Sound familiar?
A major theme throughout our conversation was rejection sensitivity.
Diann explained that many entrepreneurs don’t avoid action because they lack confidence. Instead, they fear criticism, judgment, and rejection. This often shows up as endless planning, tweaking, learning, and preparing without ever fully putting themselves out there.
As coaches and consultants, we often think we need another certification, another course, or another strategy.
The truth is often much deeper.
We may simply be afraid of being seen.
Another powerful takeaway was Diann’s approach to building an ADHD-friendly business.
Rather than forcing herself into rigid systems, she helps clients design businesses around their natural strengths. This includes simplifying offers, reducing distractions, creating accountability, and eliminating unnecessary complexity.
One point that really resonated with me was her advice around offers.
Many entrepreneurs believe more offers equal more opportunities.
In reality, more offers often create more confusion.
Diann recommends keeping businesses simple with one primary offer or a very small offer suite. This creates clarity for both the business owner and potential clients.
We also discussed podcasting.
Diann shared that it took her two years to launch her podcast despite having the equipment, training, coaching, and knowledge.
The missing piece wasn’t information.
It was accountability.
Today her ADHD-ish podcast ranks in the top 1.5% globally.
That’s a powerful reminder that progress comes from action, not perfection.
Perhaps the most important lesson from our conversation was radical self-acceptance.
Not making excuses.
Not lowering standards.
Simply understanding who you are, what you’re good at, and where you need support.
When we stop trying to be someone else and start building around our strengths, everything changes.
